The application of GIS was the game changer in polio program in Nigeria. it was designed for data collection in settlement geographic zones, which locates the settlement position with the use of Geo coordinate point or longitude and latitude point.
Overview
Geo data of 69,534 settlements, 8,238 health facilities, 15,761 schools and 28,810 mosques were collected from 2,314 wards in 207 LGAs in 9 states. This was the largest GIS exercise carried out in any country in health sector in the world for polio eradication.
